To believe originates back to the Old English word lÄ“of (means: dear). The Middle English word is "leven" which in Dutch means "to live" and also means "life".

So to believe actually means to hold dear, to love.

 

To believe something means to hold something dear, to love something.

A belief therefore is a certain amount of Source:Love.
